Rotary Fishing Rodeo

On Thursday, April 19, and Friday, April 20, the Luverne Rotary Club hosted the county's 6th grade honor students and Mrs. Teresa Smith's, Mrs. Joan Johnson's and Mrs. Gayla Pierce's classes at the Crenshaw County Lake.  Participants were provided hats to keep, rod and reel, bait and an opportunity to catch dinner via channel catfish. Weather could not have been better as students reeled in fish weighing 1 pound to 3+ pounds.  The experience for many was concluded by a wonderful aromatic (catfish charley and fish) trip home via the local cheese. Much thanks to the Rotarians for providing the opportunity. 

LHS Gym Update

Progress continues to be made on the LHS gymnasium.  Windows have replaced the fiber glass inserts and the ag shops are nearing completion of its balcony bleachers.

Former Students Excel In Track

Last Saturday, we took an opportunity to attend Troy University's Coach "O" Invitational Track Meet. Performing in his last collegiate meet, was former Luverne School standout Payton McGhee. Payton placed second with a time of 10.58. He also placed fourth in the men's 200-meters setting a season best with a time of 21.38.  Also, former LHS student Ashley Hall performed well finishing 4th in the 100 meters with a time of 12.07 and 13th in the women's 200 meters with a time of 25.08.  She is the Trojan's fastest female in the 100 meters.

The Trojans will have almost two weeks to prepare for the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships on May 11-13 in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Payton will graduate this spring with a degree in marketing.  It bears mentioning that he has served the Troy Track Team as chief recruiter over the past several years.  Ashley is a junior and is majoring in business.

BHS Gym Window Renovation

During Spring Break, Brantley School's gym received a little cosmetic surgery as its fiberglass panels were replaced with new glass windows.  These openings are now much more energy efficient and eye pleasing.

Two Thumbs Up Review for LES 1st Grade Play

The stars were on broadway two Thursday nights ago in Luverne School's auditorium as its first graders presented a Bugz Life to the Dee Turner PTA.  This was the 27th consecutive year of the performance and its was especially heartwarming for those of us who watched LHS seniors in this very same production 12 years ago.  Proceeds from this event help fund a scholarship for graduating LHS seniors.  Much thanks to the first grade teachers:  Mrs. Judy Wilson, Mrs. Shea Simmons, Mrs. Jill King, and Mrs. Lisa Lawrence.

County-wide High School Math Tournament A Success

With two teams from each school entering the Senior High Math Tournament, Luverne School's Teams A and B took the honors of first and second place.  LHS Team A and Team B finished regulation in a virtual tie.  The tie was broken when Team B Amanda Fang and Team A Jace Sanders went head to head in a ciphering contest.

Individual tournament winners were:  first place- Dillion McCardle of HHS with a perfect score, second place-  Jace Sanders of LHS, and Clint Kilcrease of BHS.

Thanks to the math sponsors, LHS, vendors who donated and Mrs. Ash and Mrs. Catrett for such a wonderful competition.

ARMT Award Given at BHS

All BHS students who worked diligently on the ARMT+ were allowed to enter the Kindle Fire drawing.  Anthony Jones' name was drawn.  Congratulations to him and all of the students who performed so well.
