Students, we have decided to revert back to dial-up connections for your iPads. From now on you will have to wait for the device to ring (scramble noise in the ear) and 3 minutes later connect. (Not funny, huh?)
The World's First Programmable Computer, the Z1, was built in 1936 |
In 1/4 of a second, your request per iPad leaves your device, travels wirelessly to an access point, through a system of hubs and switches, into fiber per Troy Cable, travels to Troy, then to Central Office and is routed to the Alabama Super Computer Authority (ASCA) in North Alabama and is filtered, then to the internets, gets the desired information and follows the same path back to your iPad. Folks, now that is moving on!
Our infrastructure may not be perfect, but it is much better than it used to be. Just this week, we increased our virtual pipe from Central Office to ASCA from 100 M to 200 M. The virtual pipe from your schools to Troy Cable is 50 M. Here is how much of that pipe each school is using:
- Luverne- 47.40 M
- Brantley- 44.33 M
- Highland Home- 49.48 M
From the above, one can see that the pipes are full, so we are
requesting larger. Over the next few weeks, your service should steadily improve.
So the next time you feel blue (or red or green), because your signal was lost somewhere in a cloud, just remember the days of recent past when service was slower.
Update 2/14/14 @ 8:40 AM: ASCA just upgraded all schools to 100 M. Now we have twice the space.
