Board Approves Revised Board Policy and Organizational Chart

On Monday, June 18, 2012, the Crenshaw County Board of Education approved a revised Board Policy, Unit 6, Human Resources.  Pertinent to the newly adopted policy, the Board approved the following organizational chart.

Board Approves Short Term Goals

On Monday, June 18, 2012, the Crenshaw County Board of Education approved its short term goals for the 2012-2013 school year.  These goals will serve as a guide as system and school decisions are made.

Goals are grouped but are not presented as a hierarchy, less goal (1) which is our foremost objective.

Goals 1-4:             School Climate and Capital Outlay

Goals 5-9:             Curriculum

Goals 10-11:       Technology

Goals 12-13:       Communication and Collaboration

Goals 14-15:       Accountability

1. Create and maintain a safe learning environment – RR
2. Maintain cleanliness – CT
3.  Improve school climate.  Create an environment that is compassionate.  Exhibit school and system pride. – BJ
4. Recruit and retain students – TH
5. Increase academic focus – SS
6.  Increase enrichment opportunities – BJ
7. Challenge the whole child per challenging curriculum and diverse extracurricular activities.   Moreover, create and implement an honors program that distinguishes itself from the standard program. - CT

9. Enhance and broaden the science curriculum.  Implement more hands-on activities for high school students. - CT
10. Provide Students With 21^st Century Resources to Ensure Success. Moreover, provide students with a one-to-one electronic device initiative (tech device) tool – TH
11. Create a 21^st Century Learning Environment.  Specifically, enhance and broaden use of technology, including, but not limited to, the system’s infrastructure, wireless access, staff resources, and student resources. CT

Summer Jenkins Wins Crenshaw County DYW

Congratulations to Ms. Summer Jenkins of Brantley School.  This past Saturday she was named Crenshaw County's Distinguished Young Woman.  Congratulations to all of the contestants and much thanks to Luverne School for hosting.

Paid Lunch Price to Increase

The Crenshaw County Board of Education approved an increase in paid lunch prices for the 2012-2013 school year from $1.60 to $1.75.  Of the surrounding 14 school systems, 10 charge $2.00 or more and 3 systems charge  $1.75.

2012-2013 School Calendar Approved

On Monday, June 18, 2012, after much consideration, the Crenshaw County Board of Education unanimously passed the 2012-2013 school calendar.

Mrs. Ashley Catrett Named as One of Nation's Emerging Leader

The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), the leading international nonprofit education leadership association, has selected Mrs. Ashley Catrett, Director of Curriculum and Career/Technical Education in the Crenshaw County School System for its 2012 Class of Emerging Leaders.  The emerging leaders program recognizes and prepares young, promising educators to influence education programs, policy, and practice on both the local and national levels.

The leaders are enrolled in the program for two years and may be paired with an ASCD mentor including a Board of Directors member, a Leadership Council member, an affiliate leader, or another high-level contributor who will provide support and help guide their development. 

ASCD emerging leaders have typically been in the profession five to 15 years, have a marked interest in making a positive contribution to education policy and practice, and have invested in professional growth opportunities aimed at improving student outcomes.

Mrs. Catrett will attend ASCD’s Leader to Leader Conference held in early July, where she will have the chance to grow as an ASCD emerging leader and access new ideas, resources and practices from ASCD leaders, presenters and staff.

Parent Title I Meeting to be Held

Parents,

The purpose of this letter is to notify your School’s Title I Parent Meeting on June 20, 2012, at 10:00 in the Textbook Room of the Joe R. Sport Administrative Building. This meeting will last approximately one hour.

There are four topics that are the scope of this meeting. One will be to inform parents of their school’s participation in Title I, the requirements of the law, and Title I parents’ right to be involved. Another topic is to explain the purpose of the one percent of Title I funds that is set aside for parental involvement and parental involvement activities. Mr. Wilkes will also discuss the Crenshaw County Board of Education’s Parental Involvement Plan. The revision of school-parent compacts will be the final topic of discussion.
