HHS Juniors Featured in Teen Ink Magazine

“Educator of the Year” Essay Contest

Congratulations to the following highlighted writers and Editor’s Choice winners of Ms. Rebecca Sims’s 11th grade English classes at Highland Home School, who have thus far been featured online in the Teen Ink magazine Educator of the Year essay contest. Boasting the largest distribution of any publication of its kind, Teen Ink is a national teen magazine devoted entirely to teenage writing, art, photos and forums. Hundreds of thousands of students have submitted their work and it has published more than 55,000 teens since 1989 as a product of The Young Authors Foundation, Inc. (a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization).

Thus far, two essays were felt to deserve special recognition for especially outstanding work, receiving the designation "Editors' Choice" award:

  • Honesty Ripley’s Educator of the Year: Michelle Mansmann
  • Payton Frazier’s Teen Ink Educator of the Year: Coach Dougie
In addition, several essays received high scores from readers, and as a result, spent a day featured on the front page of the website:
  • Emily Brown’s The Perfect Teacher
  • Donte Crenshaw’s Coach Doug
  • Christina Bowen’s Teen Ink Educator of the Year: The Best History Teacher
