Brantley School third graders recently participated in a enrichment activity based on the Chinese culture. In language arts, students compared and contrasted a Chinese story based on "Little Red Riding Hood." Students practiced fluency and choral reading using a Chinese skit. Mini-clips via the internet were used to demonstrate Chinese New Year facts. Students and teachers enjoyed eating rice and fortune cookies. Using chopsticks was a first for many. Students read a Chinese story entitled "The Seven Chinese Brothers" and based on the text, create the eighth brother. In social studies, the students implemented map skills and demonstrated writing Chinese characters using ink. A variety of other activities and lessons using folktales and books were experienced by these third graders. Gung Hay Fat Choy!
