Proposed
school calendars for the 2014-2015 school year will be discussed in an upcoming
School Calendar/Board Policy Revision Meeting on Wednesday, January, 22. Please express your desires to any of the
following committee members: Randy Fullington, Gary Coleman, Morgan Cook, Lisa
Cox, Doug Bailey, Danielle Butts, Dodd Hawthorne, Ashley Kilcrease, Debbie
Hall, Shelly Davis, Tammy Sims, Greg Pittman, Lisa Adair, Jamie Howard, Heather
Sanders, Beverly Sport, Susan Walden, Ashley Catrett, Donna Ash, Sherry Sport,
David Lowery, Chuck Alford, Bob Williams, Julie Swan, Rachel Moates, Tonya Hermeling, Ruth Bayman, Peggy Tranum, Ken Wesley, Mike Jones, members of the Crenshaw
County Board of Education and myself.
To
provide guidance in the selection, a draft calendar is provided below. Please know the following:
- A school calendar must contain no less than 1080 hours of instruction
- The draft calendar was computed based on 178 full days of instruction at 53 minutes per period per a 7 period day
- The above computation was not construed to indicate that the system is returning to a 7 period day.
- Certified staff members must work 187 days.
- Semesters should be similar in length.
- It is desired that bad weather days be included.
- The draft calendar includes teacher professional development days that could be used as such. (The current school calendar did not include bad weather days; therefore, Martin Luther King holiday, spring break or returning after Memorial Day would have been the only options for make-up).
- Preferences will be expressed to committee members prior to January 22.
- Committee recommendations will be made and calendars developed on January 22.
- Certified staff will vote on the calendars.
- Based on the outcome of the vote, a recommendation will be made to the Crenshaw County Board of Education on February 17.
- The Board will consider the recommendation.
