Last week, members of "Crenshaw Forward" traveled to Mobile to attend the "Worlds of Opportunity Career Expo." The occasion featured 115 businesses and industries from the surrounding 8 counties. Nearly 10,000 eighth grade students visited the 13 various worlds. More than 600 volunteers assisted in the 2 day event. Most unique to the expo was that students were engaged in activities at each site as opposed to simply receiving information. Since the advent of this project three years ago, Mobile Public School's career technical enrollment has quadrupled. Mobile current ranks nationally in the top 10 for
median family growth and economic potential over next 5 years.
Members of Crenshaw Forward are now preparing our own event for Career Preparedness students in grades 8 and 9. Using the results of this fall's EXPLORE, career interest inventory students will visit a world closer to home and investigate the many career opportunities thereof. More information is forthcoming.
Also, Career Forward and Crenshaw County Board of Education seeks to better our relationship with local business and
Industry and will foster meetings with business/industry leaders in the near future. In correlation with these efforts CCBOE will host an Appreciation Breakfast for business and industry leaders on November 7, at 7 AM in the bookroom of Central Office. More information is forthcoming.
