HOSA to Attend Nationals

Twenty-two members of the Crenshaw County's Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) participated in this year's State Leadership Conference at the Renaissance Hotel & Montgomery Performing Arts Center on February 7 and 8. The students competed in a variety of events such as Dental and Medical Spelling, HOSA Bowl, Career Health Display, Creative Problem Solving, Medical Photography, Health Education, & Public Speaking. With events that took place as late as 10:00 p.m. and due to fundraising efforts, students were able to stay overnight. The students listened to motivational speakers and networked with over 900 registered for the state HOSA conference. The club was proud to have brought home several awards. Amanda Fang's pin design placed first in that event and her design was everywhere at the conference. Pins were sold, teddy bears were given to competitors and the design was placed on the conference t-shirts! (See attached pic where it was on the front screen to welcome everyone to the conference.) The HOSA club was awarded a $100 cash prize and first place in the ”Healthy Vitals” project for submitting the Kidcheck+ program.  The club was recognized for adding at least 10 more members (the actual addition was 37 more than last school year). Briana Odom & Janae Lowery placed second in Career Health Display as they designed a project around the career of ultrasound technician. HOSA Bowl members Morgan Baines, Edwinna Johnson, Taylor Grant, & Shakia Brantley placed third in one of the most difficult events, Health Science Knowledge! The Creative Problem Solving Team of Mallory Jones, Morgan Taylor, Luke Boyd, and Jon Hayden Sanders placed third in an event that Crenshaw County HOSA has never competed in where they had to test and then develop a “Code of Ethics” for HOSA members. See attached pictures of HOSA Competition team and award winners. The banner in the picture supports this year's HOSA theme, "HOSA: BUILD A BETTER YOU!”

As a result of their performance, HOSA students will attend  and compete at the HOSA National Leadership Conference in Nashville, June 26-29.
