Intense would be one way to describe the County Spelling B as BHS 6th Grader Jon Ross Folmar and LHS 8th Grader Hyunseok Ryu battled each other for half of an hour. The entire B lasted one hour and participants worked through the entire list of spelling words. Overtime was declared and a special sealed list of never-before seen words were revealed. Here is a sample of the words spelled correctly: ventriloquy, portmanteau, Freudian, bourgeois, velociraptor, hoi polloi, scintillation, fait accompli, dirndl,
sotto voce, and fêng shui. Farmer Wilkes would have been out at "c-o-w, e-i-e-i-o." Kudos to ALL!
