TUSCALOOSA,
Alabama — After hinting at the possibility last week, Donta' Hall made it
official. The
6-foot-8 shot blocker from Luverne on Thursday committed to Alabama's basketball
signing class of 2015, BamaOnLine
first reported.
UAB,
Mississippi State, Troy had offered the 4-star prospect as Auburn, Georgia and
West Virginia all showed interest. But
Alabama was at the top of the list. "They
text and call, and UAB's about the same," he told AL.com last week.
"I met with them some time last week. They'll be better because they
played with a couple freshman last year. 'Bama still should be strong."
As
a junior, Hall averaged 11.7 points, 10.1 rebounds and 6.7 blocks a game. He
helped Luverne to the Final 48 two straight years without winning a title.
His
team finished 24-2 last season with a 2A championship game loss to Elba. Hall
got in foul trouble in the title
game to score two points, blocked six shots in 17 minutes.
Most
recruiting services don't have rankings or ratings for the 2015 class, but ESPN
rated him a 4-star
prospect. Hall
is the second commitment for Alabama's Class of 2015 after Brandon Austin of
Montgomery pledged
in August. The
Tide could get more recruiting news Friday when top 2014 target Jackson Davis announces his decision.
The Lexington, Ky., product visited Tuscaloosa last weekend. Davis was
previously committed to Rice, but is now considering Alabama, Butler and Rice.
The announcement will come at 2:45 p.m. CT Friday.
