Crenshaw County schools switched from textbooks to iPads for the
2013 - 2014 school year, and students say the transition is going well.
High school students across the county are using new technology in the
classroom. They say they prefer the iPads over books. It lightens the
load they have to carry on a daily basis because all of their materials
are loaded onto the device. Students also say if they are absent from
school, teachers are able to send them their work and communicate with
them though apps.
Teachers, like Lee Grosenbach, say it also gives the students
opportunities that a textbook can not provide, "I think it makes it
become more of an interactive process rather than just my investigation
and learning and searching for tools to help the students learn. It puts
them in charge of some of that investigation. They are able to access
Google to find apps, and the app stores, and the Apple app stores to
find good apps that help them enrich their learning."
Eighth grade students will receive iPads starting next school year.
